Criminy. When the dam breaks, it breaks hard. The Tachikoma story is at 1500 words and barely started. I can't help but wonder if this is just a liiiiittle too in-depth for the patience of most readers, though. I mean, it's not actually all that sexy, despite their best efforts, and while it's funny (at least I think it's funny) it's not erotic in the slightest. And this is supposed to be for kink_bingo.

I dunno, I guess I have an abstraction kink. :D Might as well keep going!

I'm grateful for the encouragement, it helps lots. I've always figured it's best and healthiest just to write what you want to and let the readers sort out their reaction, but...it's easy to slip into second-guess mode, you know? That way lies madness and pain. I'm curious if damning the torpedos takes more effort for somebody with a readership like yours.

Oh, it's entirely too easy to second-guess! Like many people, I am better at giving advice than taking it.

Really, I...often I feel like people are reading me despite by best efforts to sabotage myself? I don't post to communities (much), I get up and change journal sites with sort of salt-the-earth-and-don't-look-back vigor (that's the big one; my fic journal here has about 20% of the watchers that my LJ had at its peak), I walk away from thriving fandoms because I'm bored with the characters or surly at the fans. People tell me they like slash and I respond by writing het. I'm sort of my own worst enemy, despite all the polling people for their interests and taking drabble requests and so on. And sometimes I feel rotten about the attention I'm presumably losing thanks to this erratic behavior, but I'm pretty sure I'd feel worse if I were trying to keep cranking out Zack/Cloud first-time fic three years after I stopped wanting to.

...Which is an appallingly long-winded way of saying it's a pain but it's worth it. ^^;

Actually, that's something with a little more meat to it, now that I think about it. Doing what people want is gratifying as long as you want the same thing--but spiting public opinion is a joy forever.
