2012 Dear Yuletide Writer

2012 Dear Yuletide Writer post!

Hey there Yulie. It's an honor and a pleasure! If you're interested in a little more information or suggestion on my requests, here it is. Before you look at this, I want you to know that I'm a whole lot LESS interested in getting exactly what I'm asking for than getting something that you loved and rocked the hell out on. If you've got an idea, close this tab and kick that jam like it was an object made specifically for the purpose of kicking.

Here we go.

Request 1: Casanova (comic)

How to check out the canon: Unfortunately, most of it is not available free or online. The exception is the first issue, available here. The wiki page is also helpful, as are its source links. The comic itself is available in trade paperback form from a variety of sources, including Amazon. I heartily recommend it. :)

My request:
People are fucking *awed* by Zephyr, Cass included; throughout the various iterations both of them have encountered she's either the saintly Good Twin or the wanton force of destruction Bad Twin, with not a lot of middle ground. Cass loves her. Probably fears her. Cass wants to be her. On a couple of occasions he's been her, and ended up heartbroken or dead.

Man I want more of Evil Twin Zeph dealing with her [technically] little brother's confused and reverent shenanigans. Do different iterations of either Quinn sibling get in the way? Your call regarding tone: I see something dark, exploitative, and powertrippy but there's definitely room for humor. Sex and sexual matters optional but welcome; the canon really enjoys the ambiguity about whether their attachment is *that* kind of attachment and so do I. Feel free to play with that, make it explicit, or skate over it as your excellent taste and the demands of the story dictate.

More info: This request pretty much covers it, I think, but I want to stress that if you feel like taking Cass's POV, or exploring their dynamic through the eyes of another character entirely, I am ABSOLUTELY cool with that. I'd also be delighted by anything involving Ruby Berserko and Sabine Seychelle: neither of them were character options but Ruby's a glorious cluster of issues pertaining to appearance, femininity, authority, and synthetic-versus-organic that I really can't get enough of and Seychelle's a brilliant and unashamed pervert bastard. Gold, both of them. All of them.

Request 2: Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff

How to check out the canon: how about that, it's a webcomic.

My request:
The comic's gotten more enigmatic and dark since Davesprite took over. The days of carefree nancho parties and moms' choice asses are gone; in their place we have people getting murdered by helicopters and cockblocked by Subway and losing at chess. Is this growing up? Is this nascent adulthood, creeping in on the feet of mortality, responsibility, and failure?

Just HOW SERIOUS do you even have to BE just to WRITE something like this? I'd love to see you wreck their shit, trash their world, saddle them with unavoidable consequences, and see how they deal. Absurdity in the face of utter desperation.

More info: This is a hard canon to write and probably a hard prompt to follow on top of that. I was a little hesitant to ask for it, but I think Serious Business is both a rich vein of unmined material for these two and also in keeping with the change in tone of the characters it's supposedly being written by. Feel free to get absurd and over-the top with it. I imagine SBAHJ can stave off destruction and despair with cartoon physics and narrative shenanigans for a while, possibly even indefinitely. Maybe they're the ones who figure out how to get through this dire shit unscathed. Maybe everybody ends up crying with their faces murdered off. Turn the crack and horribleness meters both to 11 and drive the comic off a cliff, that's what I'm saying.

Request 3: Journey (video game)

How to check out the canon: Hope you have access to a PS3, because unfortunately it seems to be an exclusive. If you do, you can buy it for $15 here. If you don't, check out the wiki and any of the many gameplay videos on youtube. I can't recommend it enough: it's a gorgeous and deeply thoughtful experience that uses the cyclical nature of its gameplay to take you through multiple levels of the progression from innocence to mentorship to mortality. SO. MANY. FEELINGS.

My request:
The journey is the whole point of the thing, but...well, you can put it off, right? What would happen if a pilgrim tossed aside all sense of urgency or purpose and chose to occupy a particular space? Take up hobbies? Accost passers-by? Get really, REALLY good at writing in the sand? Would everything go to hell, or is it just the next step?

That's not a request for that specific story so much as a request to play with the intersection of human nature (or cape-creature nature) and progress toward enlightenment. There are bound to be lots of hiccups and missteps along the way: what impulses can lead our little chirpy friend down other paths?

More info
: Given that the game itself touches on some fairly heavy stuff, I'm actually asking for something fairly lighthearted. Don't shy away from serious themes or serious elements, but I like the idea of a player testing the boundaries of the journey itself to see what they can get away with.

Thanks again. :) Good luck and happy writing!
